Kuba folk tools closely related to daily life

Kuba leaves, which are born from the rich nature of Yonaguni Island, are a material that is deeply rooted in people's lives.
Kuba grows wild on the island and was once used as roofing material and for wrapping food, and is still used today as an everyday tool.
The creation of folk tools that are closely aligned with the lives of their users is imbued with respect for nature and the wisdom that "you can make tools even if you don't have anything, using things that are close at hand."

What are Kuba leaves?

Kuba leaves are large, fan-shaped leaves of the palm plant Livistona chinensis, which grows wild in Okinawa and Amami.
The sturdy leaves, which can grow to nearly one meter in diameter, have long been used for roofing materials, food wrapping, fans, umbrellas, baskets and other household items.
This natural material is thick and flexible, and is also resistant to water and sunlight.
