A thorough explanation of how to get to Yonaguni Island from Nagoya

This is Kishikoro from the Yonaguni@Yu editorial department.

Yonaguni Island is attracting attention with the release of a new series of Dr. Koto, which was originally broadcast in 2003.

Yonaguni Island, the westernmost point of Japan, is part of the Yaeyama Islands, but is a popular island with dramatic cliffs that are different from the other islands, as well as wild Yonaguni horses.

It is also closer to Taiwan than Ishigaki Island, and Taiwan can be seen several times a year. In fact, I live on Yonaguni Island, and have seen Taiwan about four times, albeit faintly.

This time, we will explain in detail the access and costs for two ways to get to Yonaguni Island from Nagoya.

Two ways to get to Yonaguni from Nagoya

[Cheapest] From Centrair to Yonaguni via Ishigaki on Peach

The cheapest option is to fly from Centrair to Ishigaki Airport on Peach Airlines, then from Ishigaki Airport to Yonaguni Island on JAL.

I have been to Yonaguni Island three times using this method, and it cost me about 20,000 yen each way.

Now that COVID-19 restrictions have eased and airfare prices are rising, including Peach's prices, it seems that 20,000 yen one-way is becoming a bit of a stretch.

If you book a flight during a Peach sale, you can come to Yonaguni Island for around 15,000 yen one way.

Fly to Ishigaki Island with JAL or ANA and Yonaguni Island

JAL and ANA also operate flights to Ishigaki Island depending on the season.

By using JAL's early bird discount, I was able to go for 10,000 yen one way, which may have been cheaper than taking Peach's cheap plan and checking baggage.

I think it's possible to come cheaply with ANA if you can get a cheap flight such as Super Value.

If you are saving miles or would like to use your miles, you might consider coming to Ishigaki Island with JAL or ANA.

From Centrair to Yonaguni via Naha

There are two flights a day from Naha Airport to Yonaguni Airport, so you can get to Naha Airport and catch a flight that will make your connecting flight, then transfer to Yonaguni Airport.

For information on flights from Naha Airport to Yonaguni Island, please see the article below.

One thing to note is that the flight fare from Naha Airport to Yonaguni Airport is quite expensive. The one-way adult standard fare is about 36,000 yen, which is very expensive, so I recommend using miles or for those who have money to spare.

summary

The cheapest way to get to Yonaguni Island from Nagoya is via Ishigaki Island.

Prices vary greatly depending on the season and flight schedule, so be careful when buying your flight.
