Yonaguni Island is attracting attention with the upcoming release of a new series of Dr. Koto, which was originally broadcast in 2003.
Yonaguni Island, the westernmost point of Japan, is part of the Yaeyama Islands, but is a popular island with dramatic cliffs that are different from the other islands, as well as wild Yonaguni horses.
It is also closer to Taiwan than Ishigaki Island, and Taiwan can be seen several times a year. In fact, I live on Yonaguni Island, and have seen Taiwan about four times, albeit faintly.
This time, we will explain in detail the access and costs for two ways to get to Yonaguni Island from Fukuoka.
Access to Yonaguni from Fukuoka is inexpensive
I lived in Fukuoka for about a year, and I found it much cheaper to travel from Fukuoka to Yonaguni than in other years.
To Yonaguni Airport via Ishigaki Island

The cheapest way is to go via Ishigaki Island and then to Yonaguni Airport.
We departed from Fukuoka Airport at 12:00 and arrived at Ishigaki Airport by 15:00. We will then head to Yonaguni Airport on a flight around 17:50.
Generally, it is possible to go from Fukuoka to Yonaguni for about 30,000 yen round trip. I use this method even though I live in Fukuoka, but the transfer at Ishigaki Airport is a little long, about 3 hours, and the first day will be wasted by traveling, so if you are aggressive and want to get active from the first day of your trip, consider accessing via Naha Airport, which is introduced below.
To Yonaguni Airport via Naha Airport

Although it was a very early morning flight, we flew to Naha Airport and then transferred to a flight heading to Yonaguni Airport via Naha Airport at around 12:30 noon.
This would allow you to depart Yonaguni Airport from around 2pm, but the cheapest flight from Naha Airport to Yonaguni Airport costs around 20,000 yen, so the price of a flight could end up being nearly double that of going via Ishigaki Airport.
You can also take a ferry to Yonaguni

Another option is to take a ferry to Yonaguni, which only departs from Ishigaki twice a week.
The ferry departs at 10am and arrives at Yonaguni at 2:30pm. If you are interested in sightseeing in both Ishigaki and Yonaguni, please come by ferry.
By the way, I took a ferry from Yonaguni to Ishigaki, and it was one of the top three most painful experiences of my life.
