My name is Kishikoro and I live in Yonaguni. Today I would like to introduce a local izakaya called "Onna Shuchou" where you can enjoy Okinawan cuisine.
The shop is located in the center of the Sonai village, and I often drop by after work or when friends come to visit the island.
What kind of shop is Onna-Cho?

This is a rare izakaya on Yonaguni Island, where there are few restaurants. I have been coming here frequently since I first came to Yonaguni. The restaurant has counter seats, table seats, and tatami seating, making it a great place for drinking parties.
There is a wide variety of dishes on offer, from the usual izakaya menu to Okinawan cuisine that is unique to Yonaguni, such as goya chanpuru and Okinawa soba. You can also eat swordfish caught locally in Yonaguni, so be sure to check it out when you visit.

In addition to alcohol, you can enjoy Okinawan alcoholic drinks such as Orion beer and awamori.
The shop's name comes from a legendary figure
The name of the shop, "Female Chief," comes from a legendary figure. Around the 16th century, there was a heroine called "Sanai Isoba" who is said to have abolished the bad government at the time and brought peace to Yonaguni. This female chief was named after her.
There are many stories about her bold actions, so if you visit Yonaguni, it might be interesting to look into her history and legends.
By the way, it is said that Sanai Isoba lived in Tindabana, a natural observation deck that overlooks the village of Sonai and Nanta Beach. There is a monument to Sanai Isoba near Tindabana, so it might be a good idea to go to Tindabana and then have a drink with the female chief.
