My name is Kishikoro and I live in Yonaguni.
In Yonaguni, horses can be seen walking on the roads (although only in certain areas).
Everywhere is really crowded during Golden Week.

It's like this. Sometimes it doesn't seem like they're moving away, and the only traffic jams in Yonaguni are caused by horses.
This time, we will introduce some spots where you can see Yonaguni horses.
Habitat of the Yonaguni Horse
The population of Yonaguni horses is estimated to be around 100.

Higashizaki Observation Deck
Near the observation deck on the east side of the island. You can usually see them here when the weather is nice. There are also cows.
It is often possible to go there on cloudy days, but I have never gone near this observation deck when it is raining heavily, so I don't know.
There are many days when the wind is very strong, so be careful not to let your hat or other clothing blow away.
Near the road on the west side of the island
This area is commonly known as Minami Ranch.
It connects the villages of Hikawa and Kubura along the coastline.
This is especially the place where you can see a lot of Yonaguni horses. The road is often blocked, so we recommend driving safely.
However, there are other horses besides Yonaguni horses mixed in here too lol

It creates a nice contrast with the sea like this.
If the white fur is noticeable, it is not a Yonaguni horse.

West side of the airport
This is an unpaved road so it is a little difficult.
By the way, if the angle and the mood are good during takeoff and landing, you can see it from inside the plane.
Because Yonaguni horses are wild, when they die they are left alone to return to the earth.
There are some sinkholes in the land of Kita Ranch, and some horses have become stuck in them and died, so it can be a bit of a tough visit, and I don't recommend it if you just want to take a quick look from your car.
Drive carefully
You can see the Yonaguni horses at the three spots mentioned above.
It is rare for them to suddenly jump out at you, but please drive safely and be kind to the horses.
If the road is blocked, you have no choice but to wait. In my experience, it takes about 10 minutes each time, so please keep a close eye on the horses while you wait.
