Shortage of accommodation on Yonaguni Island
There are no hotels on Yonaguni Island.
In fact, there is only one hotel, Island Hotel Yonaguni, but it has been closed since April 2021.
As of January 2023, the site is currently being rented by a construction company. It has been said that the Self-Defense Forces will be stationed on Yonaguni Island more frequently in the future, so it is likely that construction work is being carried out there.
If Island Hotel reopens, the shortage of accommodations will be resolved at once, but the situation is completely unclear. I think most residents would like Island Hotel to open and have many customers come and stay.
Yonaguni Island only has guesthouses and private lodgings
Currently, there is only one hotel on Yonaguni Island, the Island Hotel, so each village has its own private lodging or guesthouse.
Fully booked for Dr. Koto & Diving season
Yonaguni Island has once again attracted attention with the release of the Dr. Koto movie in December 2022.
Yonaguni Island is an island that can be visited all year round. Although the weather is not so good, a huge number of divers come here from November to April because they can see hammerhead sharks while diving.
The summer months are incredibly sunny, so you can simply enjoy the tropical atmosphere.
At the time of writing (January 2023), it is high season for diving and due to the Dr. Koto effect, it is really difficult to find accommodation.
One night is fine, but two nights means you'll either have to change accommodation or go home.

I don't know how long this shortage of accommodation will last, but at least now you should make reservations one month in advance. If possible, you should make reservations two months in advance, otherwise you will likely not be able to make a reservation.
